Hi all
I'm grateful to Eddie Farrell for letting you know that I am selling Lilly, my 1971 pickup and also my project 1972 (yes 1972) Postal Engineering van.
A little about Lilly:
Lilly came to be in 1971 and was the last Austin pickup to be sold from Taylors Garage in Penzance. She was bought new by a chap in Marazion who owned a farm seed company. All she ever carried was bags of grass seed. The furthest she ever went was Bristol Docks once to collect a couple of bags of seed.
The name Lilly comes about as follows: the owner had a seed store in the Old Fire Station at Marazion. The last fire engine to be in service in the station was pumped by 8 men and 2 horses, the fire engine was called Lilly. The name was given to the pickup when she took up residence in the old fire station.
I have the original green log book showing the date of original registration as 4th Jan 1971 a collection of other documents
I understand Lilly was laid up in the fire station for some period of time eventually being sold to a garage in Penzance in 2008 where she underwent a little bit of TLC before I bought her in June 2009.
I have had her for 8 years now and she has always been kept undercover and used very little.
She will not be sold for less than £10,000 and ideally I would like her to stay in Cornwall
The canvas cover is the original one
The Postal Engineering van has been in my ownership since July 2010, she came down from Newcastle Upon Tyne where a chap had spent several years rebuilding her onto a new chassis. When I got her back here, unfinished, I stripped her right down to the bare chassis once more and have spent a lot of time & money on getting the rebuild right.
If you look on the MMOC forum there is a post in the Bodywork section with a lot of pics of some of the work that has been done so far. The parts with the van include such items as new advertising board clips, original aluminium roof rack, new chassis, all new braking system, metal door cards, proper wheel nuts, wheels all blasted and painted the correct gloss black, new wiring harness ready to fit (the correct pvc wrapped item), rubber link mats, etc etc etc
She will be sold for no less than £6,000 as is
Neither vehicle is advertised anywhere else just now, but I may put them on the Classic Cars website soon
